HOW TO MAKE LIVES BETTER FOR WOMEN IN THIS SOCIETY

For the final edition of this blog series, I will talk about perhaps the most common aspect of the topic- our dear society. It’s not like none of us knows what goes on in the society, what happens behind the doors of houses, what happens in the gossip of people and what is said in the pointless taunts and remarks passed as a part of routine. Therefore, I will not waste words trying to explain what is wrong, neither will I mention how to right it. I will simply mention the efforts that are already underway because luckily once again, this is one of the aspects that has had some light shed on to it in recent years. Every other week we see stories, posts and campaigns on social media. A new harassment case, rape cases, and murder cases against women and trust me when I say that it’s the social media that brings all of these cases into light and tries to ensure justice for the victims. Our paper and TV media is controlled, they are forced to deliver a narrative in order to delude the publi...

HOW TO SETUP DUAL BOOT IN WINDOWS

When you have two copies of an operating system (we will be sticking with Windows here, but it can be any other OS such as Linux) on the same PC, it is called "Dual Booting". For most people, having one operating system on their laptop or PC is usually enough, but there can be instances when this feature of having two separate versions of Windows on the same computer might come in handy. Talking about Windows 10, it is the latest version of Windows from Microsoft packed with the required performance and a wide array of programs, applications and games. However, many of the older yet desirable applications might not work on it correctly, especially old games with discontinued developer support. In addition to that whenever a new version of Windows gets released, the graphics drivers and related tools are updated. If the required apps are not regularly updated alongside Windows from the developers, they may not work with the most recent version of Windows. Even if app or game compatibility is not the biggest concern for you there can be other reasons behind going with a dual boot configuration, such as having Windows 7 on your PC, another great OS from Microsoft either for long term usage or just to compare it with Windows 10 before finally making the switch.

Steps to Dual Boot two Windows operating systems

1. Get a copy of your desired version of Windows: Let's say you already have a Windows 10 installation and need Windows 7, you will need to either download it to a USB stick or get a copy burned onto a DVD disk. You can easily find a bootable file easily on the internet as it is available on several websites or you can purchase a physical disk copy from a nearby store that sells computer accessories.

2. Create bootable Media: You can skip this step if the second version that you are looking to install is on a DVD since that is already going be in bootable form and all you have to do is carry on with the installation. Otherwise, you will either need an empty DVD or USB flash drive with at least 8 GB (Gigabytes) of storage to create a bootable media for installation. You can use the media creation tool from Microsoft if you have a product key available and are looking to install Windows 10 as your secondary OS, or if you don't have a product or are looking to install Windows 7, there are many third party tools available on the internet with simple tutorials on YouTube that allow you to create either a bootable USB or DVD for installation.

 3. Create a new partition for the second copy of Windows: If you are looking to install on a desktop computer, your best option is to use a separate hard drive or a solid state drive for the new OS. By doing so, your existing OS won't have to compromise on space on the drive it is installed on and you won't need to perform any repartitioning. However, you can also use your existing disk drive for your second installation if you wish by making space for it through repartitioning with the help of Windows Disk Management (found in the control panel) or any other Disk Management software of your choice.

4. Install Windows: With Windows 10 and 7 both, you have the option to perform the installation straight from your File Explorer.

  • Insert your installation media (USB or DVD) into the computer and open file Explorer and click on 'This PC' from the left pane.
  • Double click on installation media, this will open a windows installation wizard on your screen, click on Custom: Install Windows only (advanced).
  • On the next screen, you'll be asked where you want to install Windows, here you're going to select either or separate disk drive or the partition you created for your new installation and click on next.
  • The rest of the steps in this installation process are to be followed based on your own preferences.
5. Use the Windows Boot Manager to switch between operating systems: If you have followed the aforementioned steps correctly, your Windows dual boot should now be ready to use. Whenever you turn on or restart your PC, you will now see the boot manager screen which allows you to choose between operating systems available to boot. You can use your arrow keys on the keyboard to navigate the options and Enter for selecting and booting your desired OS.
