Imagine yourself in the shoes of a Manager who manages a work team of high performance individuals… Seems pretty easy, right? Well, that is sadly not the case. Managing people and enabling them to achieve the organization’s goals is not that effortless.
So, how can you become a manager who gets the job done with
the display of authority and leadership but at the same time has excellent
respectful relationship with his team? Well, keep reading;
The first thing that you need to do is to maintain excellent
communication and building positive work relationship with your team, this
would translate to keeping them in loop about the ongoing projects, what are they
doing? What goals are they supposed to accomplished, and in what time? How it
would affect the organization and ultimately them? The point here is to align their
individual goals with the organizational ones and hence developing a passionate
work environment.
Secondly, you need to be an example for your team;
i.e. if you want your team to log in at work on time and you yourself are
usually late, your words would not be effective. It is the responsibility of a
leader to always lead by example. You need to form an environment where the
team feels their manager to be a part of them and not a boss. It
is found via multiple researches that those teams perform exceptionally well
whose manager plays the role of assistance and facilitation rather than
executing orders.
A manager should also have excellent conflict management
skills as modern workplaces encourage expression of opinions; it is the job
of the manager to ensure that this expression is carried out in such a manner
that would not lead to a conflict and if led to a conflict, he must know how to
diffuse it and even make people work together as a team.
The first responsibility of a leader is to define reality. The last is to say thank you. In between, the leader is a servant. – Max Depree
